The Red Fort

Dear Mother,                                                                                                September 20th, 1639

I haven’t been writing you in awhile, because of most of my adventures and studies. A few weeks ago, myself and my companions went to Khotan for some food and supplies. This is an amazing route with so much peace and quiet, maybe a little hot and dry but is very comfortable here. With the wind blowing on my face I travel to the Red Fort so named for its red walls of sandstone. In Delhi, India I travel to the Red Fort for more goods to trade and say hello to an old friend. We got some camels and some water, loading them up with all of our goods. We leave Khotan and we leave quickly, for if the sun doesn’t get you, your mind will.

We are doing well until we were attacked by bandits and mostly lost all of our goods and three of my men were slaughtered. Luckily we still had most of our camels.  As me and my companions traveled around the Himalayan Mountains we suffered bruises and nearly loss of air. But soon we will reach our destination after we get through this Himalayan Mountains, and then I can meet my old friend (Shah Jahan, Emperor of the  Mughal dynasty) Hopefully my companions can survive this a little bit longer otherwise I would be defenseless against any attacks. Me and my men travel at night now to make up for lost time (we were supposed to be there 7 weeks ago). We finally arrive in Delhi, sure it took weeks just to get around the Himalayan Mountains, but at least I have some goods to sell.

I go straight to the Red Fort, to see Shah Jahan.  As I arrive to the gate the guard had told me that Shah Jahan was on his way mongolia to sign a certain peace treaty. I wanted to know more but the guard had to change to a new position. So Im now in Delhi selling the my goods in exchange for Supplies. I accidently bump into this man who I now call friend. His name was Danielle, a buddhist. I was eager to ask him questions of this religion, but turns out he was looking for new members. I asked if i could join he said yes, I thought sense Shah Jahan is in Mongolia I could stay here for awhile. Danielle taught me so much in very little time, Buddhism originated from north eastern Asia, this religion was founded by Siddhartha Gautama (The Buddha), We read the Sacred text known as the Tripitaka, etc. I would continue mother but I wouldn’t want you reading this letter all day.

Sincerely,

Your Son
